On March 28, 2022, Sozo's Enterprise unveiled MARS, marking Guyana's inaugural Anime and Comic Convention.
MARS is a vision brought to life by the creative minds of Marissa Ramnauth and George Jaccobs of Sozo’s Enterprise. Conceived in 2020, the dream briefly deferred by the challenges of a global pandemic found its wings in 2022. The lifting of Covid restrictions signaled the birth of MARS, initially envisioned for 200 enthusiasts. However, the allure of Guyana’s first Anime and Comic Convention proved irresistible, drawing over 700 passionate participants to the Regency Hotel on August 20, 2022.
This inaugural event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Bad Monkey Merch and Kabisa, who shared in our vision of fostering a vibrant geek culture in Guyana. The resounding success of MARS 2022 fueled a commitment from the organizing team to make this an annual extravaganza. The team has since grown, welcoming the creative expertise of Shomari Williams.
As we reflect on the journey so far, having orchestrated two editions of MARS, with the second instalment drawing nearly 3,000 participants. We’re filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our community. The cosmic odyssey continues, and with great anticipation, we eagerly await the unfolding of MARS 2024.Â
